After the long drive from Sac to Salt Lake City, and the tour at terminal cancer, we decided to take it easy on our first day in Salt Lake. We slept in later than planned and Zach taught us a thing or two about hand pulled espresso and aero press coffee. Our objective was also going to be a bit more mellow as well.
With our late start, we had timed it just about perfectly to get a good parking spot at Brighton after the first wave of cars started to leave. The objective for the day was Wolverine Cirque, located off a chair and back behind Brighton was a short skin and boot pack straight up one of the chutes. With more of a mellow day planned, we took our time and tried to work some lines for photos.
The top of the ridge line provided some amazing views of Superior and little cottonwood canyon. We worked our way around on the ridge trying to find a chute that we eyed on our way up that had some untouched snow. Bjoern took the first line and dropped off a steep section into the chute while Zach and I lined up for photos. We dropped in and made our way down to Bjoern to start to line up a second shot of him on making a turn right under a tree.
The final spot for photos was where I made it to the runout and shot back up and Bjoern and Zach having a party lap through more untracked snow.
After we finished our relatively short tour, we skied right back in bounds and finished up on the groomers and back at the car. Regardless of how short it was, we had a great time accessing some awesome terrain right off the resort. Definitely a cool factor of being able to take the chair right to the start of a tour and access some less busy lines.
One of these days we’ll hit the resort for a few laps, but I’ll keep you posted.
